6 Reasons You Should Get Pedicures on the Regular

Pedicures are fun. Most of us get pedicures in the summer – we can rock sandals on the beach and show off our fresh new nails.

What you might not know is that there are tons of benefits to getting pedicures – we’re talking health benefits, both mental and physical. Getting regular pedicures can improve your mood, heal your feet, and more – read on!

Your skin will thank you

Our feet go through a lot, whether we’re moving around in heels or hiking boots. Constant pressure and friction from footwear and socks can lead to calluses, cracking, dry skin, and other skin problems.

When you get a pedicure, your pedicurist will scrub and exfoliate the skin of your feet, softening calluses and removing dead skin. They’ll also moisturize your feet, helping to alleviate the symptoms of dry skin.

Your nails will thank you, too

Nails are often the focus of a pedicure – you get to pick fun colours for your nail polish, and you can even get nail art (you’ve had a French manicure, but what about a French pedicure?)

There’s more to the nail care offered during a pedicure than beautiful nail polish, though. Your pedicurist will carefully trim your nails, helping you avoid problems like ingrown toenails. Footwear and physical activity can bend and impact nails – your pedicurist will help straighten everything out!

You can detect potential health problems early on

Pedicurists are not health professionals – they can’t diagnose any health problems, and they can’t administer any treatments.

They do, however, look at feet every day. They know what looks normal, and what doesn’t. This means they may be able to spot ingrown nails, fungal infections, and other foot problems early on. All of these problems are easier to treat if you catch them early.

Your pedicurist will let you know if they think they see a problem. From there, you can go visit your doctor and see if any treatment is required.

You can improve your overall health

Our feet determine our posture, and when they’re hurt or callused, it can lead to improper balance. From there, you might start putting pressure on the wrong places, leading to more damage to your feet.

This can lead to pressure on your legs and hips, an altered gait (how you walk), and soreness throughout your muscles and joints. By getting pedicures on a regular basis, you’ll reduce foot soreness – and that could help your whole body feel better.

Stress relief, baby!

Pedicures are luxurious – you’ll get a foot massage (which is great for circulation), your nails trimmed and filed, calluses scrubbed, dead skin exfoliated, and beautifully painted nails. The whole experience is extremely relaxing – and we could all use a little scheduled relaxation in our lives.

We just talked about how pedicures can boost your health – stress reduction offers benefits for both your physical and mental health.

You’ll look great!

This is probably the most obvious benefit of pedicures – your feet will look amazing! Wearing open-toed shoes in the summer, lazing by the lake – it’s a wonderful thing. Looking good helps you feel good – and we all deserve to feel a little better.

How often should you get a pedicure?

We recommend getting a pedicure at least once every four weeks – you’ll be able to keep your toes perfectly painted, your toenails at the perfect length, and your skin nicely exfoliated and moisturized. You should even consider coming in for a pedicure during the winter – even though you won’t be wearing open-toe shoes, you’ll have more comfortable, healthier feet.
